UNDERSEALING

Underseal is a thick coating applied to the chassis of a vehicle to protect against damage from salt corrosion and ice damage, and chipping from stones that could allow rusting to occur.

A bitumen based compound used to be applied by some, but after time this becomes brittle and water damage can be trapped between the underseal and the body, causing an even more favourable environment for rust, than if no seal was applied at all!

Polyurethane based underseals don’t have this disadvantage, but they will also suffer damage over time and it’s recommended to have your underseal checked on an annual basis to catch any problems before they take hold.

When importing your vehicle, it’s worth considering the climate of where your car is coming from. If the originating country doesn’t have the aggressive winters we experience here in the UK, application of underseal and wax injection is imperative to ensure the vehicle’s longevity in this country.

At CCCR, the first thing we’ll do in the underseal process is clean the underside of your vehicle. This is to remove all the dirt, flaking rust and any peeling underseal or paint, and to make the underneath as clean as possible. Any plastic inner wheel arch covers are removed at this point to gain access to the areas behind where accumulated salt and dirt which would otherwise remain hidden.

Brakes and exhausts are then masked and the underside is then coated with black, durable, rust inhibiting underseal.

All necessary interior trim is removed and cavity wax is then applied at high pressure inside all box sections, such as pillars, doors, boot and sills.

When the underseal treatment has been completed, the car is unmasked and any trim that was removed, carefully refitted.

This process results in a neat, weatherproof, ‘factory look’ finish giving you reduced road noise and reducing the likelihood of unsightly paint blistering, as well as peace of mind knowing:

  • Your prized possession is protected no matter how severe the weather

  • You’ve helped preserve your vehicle’s highest possible resale value

  • You’ve reduced your maintenance and repair bills for the future
