Automotive Nirvana in the heart of the Cotswolds

Header picture, a snap shot of a brace of current full nut and bolt restorations that Cotswold Classic Car Restorations have undertaken, comprising of a 1962 Jaguar E Type roadster that was offered for sale (untrimmed or painted) along with two Aston Martin DB6's. Above, a 1962 Maserati 3500 GTI, a DB6 and Maserati Mistral which has since gone over seas, Aston Martin and Maserati feature heavily within the CCCR back catalogue of restoration projects.

The contemporary automobile has reached such a level perfection that it has become an impersonal object; a domestic servant so sterile that it is impossible to connect with it on a human level. The modern motor car does everything we ask of it and as a machine tasked with the banalities of getting from point A to point B it is hard to fault. And yet, in the face of this cold rationalism the growth in interest in classic cars looks unstoppable; be it collecting, driving or restoring the old car hobby has never been more vibrant.

What was once seen as a quaint eccentricity is now a fashionable main stream pursuit as each new generation falls in love all over again with the cars that defined its youth. And what other past time is so all inclusive, no matter what you’re cultural or socio economic background?

The object of your desire could be a multi-million pound exotic or a seventies saloon like your dad used to own, yet both come under the broader understanding of what a ‘classic car’ should look, smell, feel and drive like even if their values are wildly divergent. Some cars were born classics; others acquire a patina of fascination that comes with age and rarity rather than its intrinsic worth as an object. Some cars are now treated with the reverence of works of art, others seem to be reminders of happier times when the world was a simpler place.
